I feel inclined to tell you, because I’m excited, that I just sent off my entry to Fashion Design Star -competition. It is an international competition, that has serious prize money for the winner, for starting their own fashion label. It would greatly speed up my endeavours in the area, so even though I’ve already started… Yeah, it would help, the 25,000 grand prize. Not that I SERIOUSLY expect to win, but you have to give it a go, right? I am more keen on getting some feedback from true professionals anyway, even though I’m not sure if they do, but here’s to hoping.
So, that’s that, wish me luck!
Finally I got these two photographed! I’ve been working on the number 3 for quite some time as I’ve been busy with other things as well, but it was certainly worth it. I am very happy with the result, not that #2 wasn’t satisfactory to me, I love the #3. Thanks to my new friend Jen, the photos turned out great. 
The more I look for wedding dresses and bridal gowns that would be in my alley of things, the more I realise what a huge gap there is in the wedding dress industry. For such a loved item, a dress that most girls dream about most of their young life, a piece of clothing that can be such a source of inspirational for a designer, it is unbelievably hard to find a dress that would absolutely blow your mind. I don’t want to sound like I was just one more arrogant newcomer in the area trying to bash every other designer out there, but I can’t help but be a little disappointed with a lot of the big designers out there. Even Vera Wang doesn’t cook my crumpet. I have been thinking about starting a blog just about wedding gowns, but I can’t find much to be inspired to write about - or to post a photo and say “look at this”. BUT I have found something. In our version of junior high I swore I would never ever do anything related to sewing or anything else girly. I would become a rock star, and if not a rock star then maybe a carpenter, but definitely not a seamstress of any kind. I didn’t even take classes in sewing, but took classes in wood and metal work. I’ve been “shopping around” for a wedding gown. I am not getting married nor are we renewing our vows, but as I am planning a wedding dress business, I need to check out the competition. While searching, I noticed that the terms in bridal fashion are quite rubbery, and it’s easy to be misguided if you are not quite sure what the terms mean. (more…)
